At Mount Eerwah Park we endeavour to handle our calves from the day they are born. The very trusting relationship we have developed with our cows is such that our cows will let us do this. We love spending time with the calves. Within days they will allow us to stroke and brush them. Within weeks they will allow us to halter them, lead them around and play silly games with them - like wearing sunglasses and a hat.

Almost every day we go into our paddocks and enjoy hands on interaction with all of our herd. Some might just get a scratch behind the ear, but others will get brushed from head to hoof and one or two will have a halter put on them and get paraded around. We encourage our family, friends, neighbours and visitors to participate in this routine so that our cattle get used to everyone - not just us!

Yes, a lot of time goes into making the wonder that is a Mountain View miniature white calf, but none of it seems like hard work. These beautiful, docile, animals are a joy.

If you are lucky enough to take one home, the good thing is, because we have spent so much time with them you won't have to. We can almost guarantee that you will want to spend lots of time with them but you won't have to . All the 'work' is done!

On a more serious note, and of interest to commercial breeders, the US Department of Agriculture found that Galloway calves have the highest percentage of calf survival to weaning. This means the Galloway breed guarantees less heartache and financial loss for everyone.
