Our miniature white cattle are very small even when they reach maturity. This, coupled with the fact that they are specifically bred for their docile nature and their good looks, means our miniature cattle remain cute long after they grow out of being just cute calves! Mountain View Miniature White Galloway cattle are an attractive, easy care addition to any property. They are perfect for the first time livestock owner. Full Blood Galloways We chose full blood Miniature Galloways because they have all the good qualities of the standard Galloway with all the added benefits of the reduced size. We chose the white colouring because the White Galloways are relatively rare and because with the black and dun points they look great in the paddock. White Galloways are listed as a rare breed and we believe it is important to ensure that future generations get the opportunity to fall in love with these beautiful bovines too. But don't be taken in just by the cute factor - this breed offers real value to the commercial cattle breeder - large scale or small. You might choose a Galloway because: 1. Fertility. Galloway bulls are very fertile at an early age. If you want your cows in calf – the Galloway is the bull for the job. 2. Ease of Calving. The Galloway calf is very vigorous at birth which helps it to survive those crucial first few days of life. Make sure of your calving ease by using a Galloway Bull. 3. Maternal Traits & Longevity. Galloway females are very protective of their calves and will produce a live viable calf well into their teens. They produce a high quality milk and will look after their calves in all conditions. 4. Non-Selective Grazers. Research in Europe has shown that Galloways will graze over the whole paddock which allows the grasses to be able to compete with the weeds. 5. High Quality & High Yielding Carcasses. The typical Galloways carcass is well muscled, long and with optimum fat cover. Rarely does a Galloway cross have too much fat cover. 6. Produce High Quality Healthy Beef. In Canada, USA and Switzerland research has shown that beef which is extensively produced can be of great benefit in a healthy diet. Galloway beef raised under extensive conditions is rich in linoleic acid. 7. The Breed to Cross Breed. Galloway females are highly suited to joining with other breeds, with their easy-calving, good mothering and ability to do well in any conditions. Miniature Full Blood White Galloways Currently Miniature Galloway females can mature at no more than 120 cm and males at a maximum of 124 cm. At 12 months Miniature Galloway females must not be over 107.5 cm and 112.5 cm for males. (With our Whitelines and Wee Whites we are aiming for 100 cm and less at maturity.)
Cuddles, a beautiful full blood Miniature White Galloway female - at 18 months. This heifer has strong black points (black eyes, ears, nose, hooves). Cuddles had her first calf on 29 Oct 2009.
Dior, a pure bred - 8 months. Sweet and affectionate, she adores being brushed and haltered.
Dusty, another full blood day dreaming away - she hasn't got a clue how gorgeous she is yet! Given a choice we would choose Galloways again and again. It has been our experience that the Galloway is the most gentle and affectionate in nature of all the different breeds of miniature cattle. Our Whiteline Whitelines are what we call our ‘designer cattle‘. These are not a separate breed but one of our Galloway breeding lines - technically speaking they are graded Miniature White Galloways. Miniature White Galloways were not the smallest or the most readily available of the miniature cattle breeds currently available in Australia when we started out. We wanted to build our herd and retain all the good qualities of the Miniature White Galloway. Grading up was the key. So, after some research and a few trials we have found that by joining full blood Miniature White Galloways with small, pure bred Lowlines the perfect combination of both breeds is the result. Everything that is great about a Miniature White Galloway only smaller, plus everything that is great about a Lowline. We call the graded Miniature White Galloway cattle that we have bred using Lowlines - Whitelines. As our breeding program progresses the progeny of our graded Miniature Galloway cattle, the breeding line that we now call Whitelines, will eventually qualify to be registered as Pure Bred Miniature White Galloways. This will take a minimum of five generations - it is our ultimate aim and well worth the wait. In five generations we will have a line of Pure Bred Miniature White Galloway cattle with a very distinctive breeding history. Until then we will always have what we call Whitelines - beautiful, high value 'designer cattle'. Our Wee White Wee Whites are what we call our other line of ‘designer cattle‘. Again these are not a separate breed but one of our Galloway breeding lines - technically speaking they are graded Miniature White Galloways also. In our search for perfect small white miniature cattle to build our Miniature White Galloway herd we came across Miniature White Galloways that had been bred with full blood Scottish Highland cattle. We liked what we saw. A fabulous combination of two very striking Scottish breeds in a very small package. We bought three little white heifers and shipped them across land and sea, crossing three state borders in the process. Like the Galloway, Scottish Highlanders are magnificent looking animals renown for thriving in harsh conditions. The cross is a perfect marriage of shaggy and solid. When joined again with our little Miniature White Galloway bull these graded Miniature White Galloway cattle that have been bred using Scottish Highlander cattle should produce absolutely beautiful, tiny, wee white calves. We call the graded Miniature White Galloway cattle that we have bred using Scottish Highlands - Wee Whites. As our breeding program progresses the progeny of our graded Miniature Galloway cattle, the breeding line that we now call our Wee Whites, will eventually qualify to be registered as Pure Bred Miniature White Galloways. This will take a minimum of five generations also. In five generations we will have a line of Pure Bred Miniature White Galloway cattle with a very distinctive breeding history. Until then we will always have what we call Wee Whites - beautiful, high value 'designer cattle'. |
